MEET HATTIE

Hattie, described as “achingly honest and full of heart” is the brainchild of Brooklyn-based vocalist, songwriter, and engineer-producer Melissa Kaitlyn Carter.

Named after her great grandmother who almost took the Titanic with her family over to the states, but one of them couldn't get a ticket, this project is an act of generational healing.

The genre? Sad girl music for the girl who’s trying to not be so sad anymore.

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Hattie’s third single “Aftermath” is a celebration of self. It’s about a breakup but (thank god) not in the way you’d expect. The lyrics of the refrain “And I’m sorry that you didn’t see that I was glowing” encapsulate the recognition of ones own beauty and value. Ones own worth. It’s basically saying, “hey, I’m frigging amazing and you missed it.” This is a vital thread in all of Hattie’s music. It’s all a part of a larger healing process; encouraging herself and her listeners to recognize and live within their own worth. Thelma is featured and worked as a co-producer and vocalist on the track. The production echoes styles of Dirty Projectors and Sylvan Esso. It’s definitely still sad girl indie-pop, but it’s a bop. This single will be released on Hanging Moon Records.
